Small business in Nairobi will be the hardest hit after the decision by the County Government to consolidate fees under the annual license permit.
The county said it has consolidated all the charges such as signage fees and other permits significantly lifting business costs especially for small businesses in the central business district.
For instance, certain businesses that were paying about Sh10,000 in some parts of the CBD will now be forced to part with over Sh30,000.
Shops that used to pay Sh5000 will now pay more than Sh9,000 making it hard to do business in the city.
The traders are required to have complied with the new requirement by end of March. City Hall said the fees will vary depending on the type of the business with food and restaurant businesses paying the most.
The County Government of Nairobi has been criticised of failing to meet the expectations of its residents who complain of garbage pits around the city while the cost of running business in the city has risen.
