Kenya Leads Africa’s Internet Race

Kenya leads the continent in internet penetration as of March 31, 2017 according to statistics from internetworldstarts.com.

Kenya has an internet penetration of 77 per cent followed Mauritius at 62 per cent and Seychelles at 57 percent. Nigeria has a 48 percent penetration while Egypt and South Africa have 36pc and 51pc respectively.

Nigeria however has 93 million people using internet compared to Kenya’s 37 million. About 38 million South Africans use internet compared to Egypt’s 34 million.

Kenya is banking on the ambitious results to help equalise access to opportunities such as education, healthcare and employment. The government and the private sector are launching wi-fi facilties across the country to provide access to information.
