The chief executive of Centum Investment James Mworia earned Sh375m in the financial year ending March up from Sh201m the previous year making him the most highly paid CEO.
The story broken by the Business Daily puts Mr Mworia’s pay at an eye popping Sh1 million a day shocking many in a country whose economy is tiny by global standards leave alone the company itself.
Mr Mworia’s pay is higher than any other company CEO in Kenya despite its comparatively lower earnings relative to other companies on the NSE, the company’s annual report shows that most of the Sh375m earnings were due to bonuses and other benefits.
Mr James Mworia’s monthly pay is however just Sh2m totaling to Sh24 million a year but the Sh375 million annual pay shows how huge his benefits are relative to his pay.
This pay bonanza places the former Centum Invesments intern comfortably ahead of Safaricom boss Bob Collymore and several other blue cheap company heads including KCB and Equity Bank.
Centum Investments’ market capitalization stands at Sh89 billion up from Sh30 billion almost a decade ago.
